Following the staging of Nabucco at the Astra Theatre, the scenery and props that were constructed by the backstage team at the theatre were chosen for a similar production which was staged at Stadio 105 Rimini, Italy.

The scenery was devised, built and put together by a team of volunteers led by the theatre’s scenic artist Joseph Cauchi and operations manager Andrew Portelli on designs prepared by Italian regista, Enrico Stinchelli.

The event was a golden opportunity to market Malta

The set and the mise-en-scène have been widely acclaimed by opera patrons and have received positive reviews penned by local and foreign critics.

Two containers loaded with the scenery were shipped to Italy, while a group of six technicians from Astra worked on the installation of the scenery at the Stadio 105 and also operated the stage for both productions.

The event was a golden opportunity to market Malta and its cultural attractions.

The Astra Theatre is currently preparing for this year’s opera production, Giacomo Puccini’s La Bohème, scheduled for October 29 and 31 as part of the Festival Mediterranea.

Tickets are available by calling on 2155 0985.
