Lanig: Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder Martin Lanig has joined Apoel Nicosia on an 18-month deal, becoming the first German to be lured to the Cyprus club by fellow countryman coach Thorsten Fink. Frankfurt said the 30-year-old had requested to be released from his contract.

Guilty Plea: A 25-year-old fan has pleaded guilty to going into an area banned to supporters when he confronted Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger. The incident happened at the end of the match at St Mary’s on January 1, which home side Southampton won 2-0. Luke Bryant was arrested and subsequently charged with the offence.

Hahn out: Borussia Moenchen-gladbach forward Andre Hahn is set to miss the first three matches when the Bundesliga resumes later this month due to an Achilles heel inflammation. The 24-year-old Germany international, who joined from Augsburg this season, is to wear a protective bandage for about 10 days to help speed up the healing process. Gladbach are away to Stuttgart on January 31.

Upson: Matthew Upson is closing in on finally making his debut for Leicester. Upson joined the Foxes on a free transfer from Brighton at the start of July, only to suffer a foot injury soon after. The 35-year-old is again back in training, with the likelihood of an appearance in February if all goes well as boss Nigel Pearson feels he will be a valuable asset. “Hopefully we will get him back on the pitch next week,” Pearson said.

Blanco: Former Mexico striker Cuauhtemoc Blanco will make his last visit to the Azteca, his home at the height of his career, when relegation threatened Puebla visit champions America today. The 42-year-old Blanco, who was capped 120 times by Mexico, said he will retire at the end of the championship with plans to go into politics.
