Beppe Fenech Adami this evening called on the Auditor General to carry out an audit of Enemalta's hedging agreements in 2013 and 2014.

He made his request at the end of a meeting of the Public Accounts Committee.

The Nationalist Party deputy leader pointed out that the PAC was debating the NAO's report on fuel procurement between 2008 and 2011, even though the remit had extended way beyond the findings of the report.

He said that in chapter four of the report, the auditor had presented a very detailed exercise on hedging, including when and how profits and losses were made.

"In view of this, I ask the Auditor General to carry out a similar exercise on the period 2014 and 2015," he said.

Justice Minister Owen Bonnici for the government side said there was no objection.

The auditor was asked to deliver the results in a reasonable time frame.

The Opposition has been hitting out at the government for maintaining high fuel prices despite a 50% drop in the international price of oil. On Monday, Energy Minister Konrad Mizzi said fuel prices would be reduced once hedging agreements expired.
