A construction worker who stole his sister's jewellery after having been invited to her house was this afternoon handed a suspended sentence.

Dennis Galea, 32, from Rabat, pleaded guilty to stealing €1,500 worth of jewellery on Tuesday from the residence in Rabat.

Magistrate Audrey Demicoli jailed him for 18 months suspended for three years and ordered him to repay his sister within six months.

Police Inspector Sarah Magri prosecuted while lawyer Simon Micallef Stafrace appeared for the man.
