Further to Albert Cilia Vincenti’s contribution regarding “glaring injustices to pensioners”, I would like to add my bit.

When I retire in a couple of years’ time I will be entitled to the sum of €928 a month, whereas colleagues and friends of mine who retired recently are receiving an average of €1,300 monthly, apart from a handsome gratuity.

We are on the same government scale but the difference between us is that I started working after 1979 while they started in 1978.

Is this what we understand by social justice? I will be getting half of my salary not two thirds! Aren’t we all paying equal taxes and social security contributions?

My quality of life is surely going to be affected. This is a new kind of poverty and discrimination. The capping is only for us workers, not for politicians. No wonder none of the political parties bothered to address this anomaly.
