Mark Gatt has been named as new coach of the women’s national team.

The appointment of Gatt was confirmed by Malta FA president Norman Darmanin Demajo following a meeting of the association’s Executive Committee yesterday.

Gatt, who has been promoted from assistant coach, succeeds Pierre Brincat who has called time on his long tenure at the helm of the women’s selection. Brincat has been appointed director of women’s football within the MFA.

Gatt, who has been awarded a two-year contract, will lead the team in the Euro 2016 preliminary round tournament. Malta will face Georgia, Andorra and the Faroe Islands in April.

Frank Schembri, Gatt’s new assistant coach, has also been put in charge of the girls’ U-19 and U-16 national squads.
