Heavy snow caused travel chaos for commuters across parts of Britain yesterday as Yorkshire, the Midlands and the west coast of Scotland all had falls overnight, with Leeds Bradford Airport being forced to close temporarily. The Met Office said parts of Cumbria had received 4cm of snow. The wintry conditions reached as far south as Stansted and Southend, which experienced sleet showers.
