Mark Gatt has been appointed as coach of the women’s national team by the Malta Football Association.

Mr Gatt, who previously served as assistant to Pierre Brincat, was handed a two-year contract and will be assisted by Frank Schembri.

His first task will be to lead the team in the Euro 2016 preliminary round when Malta will face Faroe Islands, Georgia and Andorra in a mini-tournament which will be staged in Malta in April.

For Mr Schembri this will be his first coaching experience in women’s football and he will also be responsible for the U-16 and U-19 women’s national teams.

Meanwhile, Mr Brincat will continue his work in the women’s game after he was appointed as Director of Football by the Malta FA.
