A series of cultural talks will be held in Cottonera as part of an effort to inform the public about its rich history, Transport Minister Joe Mizzi said.

Addressing a press conference at the Upper Barraka Gardens, Mr Mizzi said the talks were aimed to make the public aware of the area’s rich history.

Mr Mizzi said the Three Cities were the “Cinderella of the media” but recent efforts to rehabilitate the area were coming to fruition.

“The people of Cottonera are no longer marginalised,” he said, adding that he was distressed to find that some people did not even know where the area was.

The first talk will be held at the Senglea Day Centre this Sunday at 9.45am and will be about the area’s early years.

The second talk, about the area’s Maritime history, will be held at Villa Bighi in Kalkara at the same time on February 22.

The third talk will be held at the Maritime Museum on March 29  and will be about the ravaging impact of WWII.

The final talk, on April 26 will be held at Dock One and will focus on the rehabilitative projects being carried out on the area’s heritage.
