The governemnt is planning to sell 2,400 garages built on government land in housing estates, Parliamentary Secretary Michael Falzon said in parliament this evening.
He told Censu Galea (PN) that garages which were on lease would be offered for sale to the current users. Those who have garages on temporary emphyteusis will be able to redeem the emphyteusis.
Garages on land which has not been expropriated and paid for yet will not be sold because the government is not the legal owner of the land.
The garages for sale include those adjacent to houses and others which are stand alone.
He stressed the sale would be of garages, not garages used as shops.
