There seem to be quite a number of foreign registered vehicles in Malta these days. They are probably not owned by tourists but by EU citizens working in Malta.

This is a good sign as long as we can keep them employed.

The foreign vehicles that are most apparent on our roads are Italian-registered cars. They can be seen parked in all the wrong places: on zebra crossings, corners, double yellow lines, and so on.

I have been told that our wardens do not fine these people because they can get away with it. This is not the case when we are fined in Italy.

There, you have no choice but to pay up or you will end up in a lot of trouble.

This is not fair to the Maltese drivers. Are we not all European citizens? This is discrimination.

Is it so difficult to set up a system that will make these people pay their fines before being allowed to board a ferry to Sicily?

I have also noted that the Italian licence of some of these vehicles has expired. I assume their insurance cover would also be expired. Who controls these things?
