The role of the Opposition is essential in a democracy.

In Malta, Simon Busuttil and his formidable team are presenting to the people not only an effective and very often proactive Opposition but an already emerging alternative government.

The reshuffle in itself reflects a dynamic leadership sustained by an appropriate restructuring of the party.

This is even more dynamic given the challenges being addressed in all areas.

As MP Marlene Farrugia said on News Feed – a full perspective of the needs of a society leading to solutions can only materialise if there is a balanced male and female participation both in policy making and implementation process.

In addition to the local requirements, the European dimension will be focused on more competently through the two capable women MEPs in this shadow cabinet.

While the priorities outlined by Busuttil regarding fuel price, dignity of hospital patients and transparency indicate that he is feeling the pulse of the people, the new portfolios of democracy and knowledge society stress his belief in a quality of life for all backed by know-ledge which has always been a factor of production and an impetus for economic and social development.

Busuttil is a man of deeds and not only of words.

His result-oriented outlook will bear fruit for the benefit of this country.
