Middlesea Insurance and MSV Life employees visited Majjistral Park in Mellieħa as part of Middlesea Group’s corporate social responsibility programme.
The group’s members of staff removed dead trees and branches from the park’s Wied ta’ Rdum area, restored rubble walls, installed watering systems and planted 200 trees, including olives and carobs.
Middlesea Insurance president and CEO Alfredo Munoz said: “We believe in investing both in our employees and the environment they inhabit. Such initiatives enable us to put our values into action.”
MSV Life CEO David Curmi said the initiative enabled employees to do their part in improving the environment. “We believe that being socially responsible is a key element to any business’s success,” he added.
The group also presented a donation to Heritage Parks Federation chairperson Carmen Sammut.
Majjistral became Malta’s first natural park after the area in the island’s northwest, which includes the coastal zone from Golden Bay to Il-Prajjiet and Xagħra l-Ħamra, was declared as such in 2007.
The park includes a six-kilometre stretch of protected coast designated as part of a larger special area of conservation of international importance within the Natura 2000 network of sites. It also contains a number of historical and archaeological areas.
The park is a member of the Europarc Federation, which represents protected sites in 35 countries.
