A traditional blessing of animals is being held today at 4pm in front of the Chapel of the Flight to Egypt by the Holy Family at the Valletta Waterfront.

The liturgical feast of St Anthony the Abbot, protector of livestock, falls on the day before, with the actual ceremony being celebrated on the third Sunday in January.

Blessing occurs in the form of a defilé, starting with bigger animals, followed by smaller ones. All animals are welcome.

The Malta Police Force Dogs Section will also participate with a show at 2.30pm in the central part of the promenade.

A village band will entertain with lively tunes from 3pm.
