While reviewing the defunct newspaper Il-Berqa, (December 18, 1947), published for a very long time by Allied Newspapers Ltd, I came across the editor’s comment on the salary of ministers and MPs, approved by the then Legislative Assembly

The figures in brackets are the salaries held in 1921. Prime Minister £1,500, (£700); ministers £1,200, (£600); members £360, (£150); Speaker £600, (£300); deputy Speaker £450, (£200); Leader of the Opposition £550, (£150).

This time round the honoraria had almost doubled in 25 years.
