Kateryna Bilyk may look like a usual granny wearing a traditional headscarf.

But there is nothing typical about the 67-year-old pensioner.

The retired math teacher is now ready to take up arms for Ukraine.

And the training was not exactly what she had in mind when she arrived at a military training course in western Ukraine. :

"I came here because I thought I would probably be helpful here to prepare at least supper for those fighters," she said. "Then I saw that women had taken up arms. And I thought, so why won't I take the gun? Maybe a time will come that I will be able use the gun. And what if I am given a gun and I don't know how to fire?"

She's training alongside much younger volunteers and says she was surprised how people in the east of the country allowed their homes to be destroyed in the battle between separatists and government forces. She says she will not let any rebels in her village.

She's also proving a point -- that you are never too old to fight.
