We are a very small, indefensible, peaceful country surrounded by Arab nations whose citizens have for many years been fighting between themselves for reasons of their own and which do not concern us in the least.

History teaches us that neutral countries have been engulfed by the conflagration of warfare simply due to their proximity to the chief contesting nations.

We are so near to the Arab nations that they might easily involve us in their conflicts, for their own interests.

If, God forbid, we shall need help in defence of our freedom and our beliefs, as we needed when the French, showed an interest in the Maltese archipelago – and thank God, the British came to our rescue – this time around our cries would not be heeded. Given today’s warfare, which is based on ballistic intercontinental rocketry, Malta has lost its strategic importance.

Thus, the government and the Opposition should seek guaranteed foreign help in anticipation of any bullying from nearby countries, especially where terrorists abound.

Considering how the EU shamefully left us on our own to cope with thousands of refugees, we shouldn’t expect any country to send its sons to shed their blood for us, as the British did when they were governing us and protecting us against both the Germans and the Italians in World War II.

If one were to reflect for a moment and look around, one might reasonably conclude that there might be a country with an intrinsic interest in Malta. British settlers outnumber all foreigners by the thousands. Therefore, the UK might still be prepared to guarantee its help in the event that we find our freedom and beliefs attacked.

Let’s not forget, history has a habit of repeating itself.
