Andorra bagged their first victory in the Euro 2016 preliminary round Group E when they eased past Malta 4-0 at the Corradino Pavilion yesterday.

Malta came into the match harbouring high hopes of earning a positive result but Andorra had other plans as Ignacio Llamas and Carlos Barbosa grabbed a brace each.

Andorra took just seven minutes to surge ahead when Barbosa hit the ball past Malta goalkeeper Matthew Mifsud.

The visitors struck again five minutes later when Llambas fired the ball home after a swift break.

Llambas put the game beyond Malta’s reach when he put Andorra 3-0 up with just seconds remaining from the end of the first half.

Malta tried to get back into the picture on the restart but it was Andorra who added a fourth goal through Barbosa on 32 minutes.

In the opening match, England and Latvia shared four goals in a thrilling encounter.

Andrejs Sustrovs put Latvia ahead after 10 minutes and two minutes later Oskars Iksters made it 2-0.

But England fought back strongly and Stuart Cook pulled a goal back in the 13th minute.

England continued to press forward and Cook made it 2-2 seven minutes from time.

Tomorrow: 4pm Andorra vs England; 6.30pm Latvia vs Malta.

Standings: England, Latvia 4; Andorra 3; Malta 0.
