England beat Malta 3-0 in the first match from the Euro 2016 preliminary round Group E at the Corradino Pavilion, last night.

As expected, England dominated play right from the start and home keeper Matthew Mifsud was kept busy for most of the match played in front of a sizeable crowd.

Ian Parkes scored after three minutes and Luke Ballinger and Agon Rexha added two more goals in the second half for England to put down their first points of the tournament.

Malta’s best chance to score fell at Matteo Desira Buttigieg’s feet but his shot was blocked on the goal line by England’s George Nash.

In the first match, Latvia beat Andorra 3-2. Oskars Iktens opened the score for Latvia with Igor Avanesovs doubling the score. Latvia continued to dominate after the break and Sens Maksims made it 3-0.

Andorra produced a late rally and goals from Diogenes Lino and Ignacio Llamas made the score look more respectable for them.
