Cagliari coach Gianfranco Zola was unable to beat his old club Parma in the Coppa Italia as Gabriel Paletta sent the hosts on their way to the quarter-finals with a clever bicycle kick during the 2-1 win.

On the stroke of half-time at the Stadio Ennio Tardini, a Parma free-kick glanced off Nicolo Barella's head and Paletta readjusted his body to swing his acrobatic effort past Cagliari goalkeeper Simone Colombi from eight yards.

Zola, who won his first game in charge of Cagliari last weekend, sent on Marco Sau and 13 minutes later he equalised, tapping in Diego Farias' pass.

But Zola was unable to beat the club for whom he played over 100 matches as Andrea Rispoli scored six minutes from time to send Parma through to a quarter-final meeting with either Juventus or Verona.

Lazio, meanwhile, had little trouble seeing off 10-man Torino to set up a last-eight clash with Milan.

Keita Balde and Miroslav Klose put the in-form visitors 2-0 up within half an hour.

Josef Martinez pulled one back for Torino, but goalkeeper Daniele Padelli was sent off for a foul on Klose in the 55th minute and Cristian Ledesma converted the resulting penalty to seal the 3-1 win for the Biancocelesti.
