Floriana completed their first major signing of the January transfer window after acquiring the services of wing-back Manolito Micallef, from Mosta, on loan for the rest of the season.

Negotiations between Floriana and Mosta had been ongoing for a few days now but the deal was finally sealed yesterday when Micallef agreed to return to Floriana for the remainder of the season with an option of making his move permanent in summer.

During his first stint at Floriana, Micallef helped the Greens win the FA Trophy after they beat neighbouring rivals Valletta 1-0 in a dramatic 2011 final.

Micallef was due to attend his first training session under the charge of coach Giovanni Tedesco yesterday evening.

He will make his first appearance for his new club on Sunday when the Greens take on Birkir-kara at the National Stadium.

Elsewhere, league strugglers Tarxien Rainbows are busy looking to bring in reinforcements as they look to move away from the lower places in the standings.

After reaching agreement to sign midfielder Jorge Yepes and striker Eduardo Vallecillo last week, Tarxien yesterday engaged a third Spanish player in this transfer window – defender Jose Perreira.

Both Perreira and Vallecillo have signed amateur contracts and are expected to make their debut for the Rainbows against Mosta on Saturday. Yepes, however, is still waiting for his international transfer certificate before his registration is completed.

It seems third-bottom Tarxien are also looking to strengthen their forward line as two Nigerian strikers are expected at the club in the coming days for a short trial.

Pietà are also on the look-out for overseas reinforcements in a bid to improve their precarious position in the standings.

In the coming days, a Nigerian striker, who spent the first part of the 2014-15 season in Lithuania, is expected for a trial as the Hotspurs are looking to bring in an adequate replacement for Brazilian Rafael Zacarias who was released earlier this month.

Meanwhile, Qormi will part ways with two young players for the rest of the campaign.

The club has given the nod for Carmelo Farrugia to join Division Two side Żejtun Corinthians while Alessio Cassar will move to Mqabba, of Division One.
