Talenti theatre company’s second production this season, Sawl, is a monologue about St Paul’s turbulent life.

Mario Micallef will be depicting the life of the ‘Apostle of the Nations’ in this original monologue written by Alfred Palma and directed by Żep Camilleri.

From Saul to Paul, from Judaism to Christianity, from a violent man obstinately set on destroying Christ’s teachings, Saul became an adherent and apostle of Christ.

He followed his mission far beyond the other apostles who had originally surrounded Christ.

He was determined to promote and exalt the same teachings he once spurned and had sought to destroy and actually bringing forth the real message Christ had originally wanted to convey.

What do people know of Saul/Paul other than the little everyone knows about him here on these islands? What do they know about his character and his sense of rebellion in the face of controversies?

What was behind his obsession to fight Christ and his new teachings?

From Saul to Paul, from Judaism to Christianity

The theatre company asks: why did Saul/Paul, after his dramatic conversion to Christianity, become the apostle who not only preached Christ and his teachings, but actually refined it to a higher degree than Peter and the other apostles – who had little or no learning – were preaching, thus creating certain controversies that today still haunt the Catholic Church?

What did exactly cause the heated clashes between Paul and some of Christ’s disciples, particularly with Simon Peter, Talenti further asks.

The theatre company says it will answer these questions in its monologue Sawl (Cert. 12+), being staged at St James Cavalier on January 24, 25, 31 and February 1 at 8pm.
