The referendum that will decide the fate of spring hunting in Malta will be held in three months’ time. But is everyone aware of it? Do people know what it is about and how will they be voting?
Most people asked these questions on the streets of Valletta said they knew about the referendum but several were scared to give their opinion on camera.
“Hunters are my customers too, I can’t afford to be public about my position,” said one retailer.
There are more serious matters in the country than a couple of feathers
“I won’t say how I will be voting because I’m afraid that someone from Castille will be taking note of what I say,” said another commentator.
“I have a business, I don’t comment on the way I vote,” said a shop owner.
Some brushed off the microphone saying that voting was “a personal issue”. Among the people interviewed, the younger were the most inclined to say they had “no idea” about the referendum or that they “do not follow news” or “are not interested”.
