It is hard to understand why the President of the Republic should have been involved in announcing the release of two Maltese-language cartoons at Verdala Palace.

It was not an occasion of national importance and surely a functionary of the education department or the Malta Union of Teachers would have sufficed.

Who is advising the President in regard to the activities to participate in, including appearances in TV programmes, such as Dissett and Xarabank?

Unfortunately, so far such advice appears to have been rather amateurish and not befitting the Presidency. The dignity of the Presidency must be well preserved and projected, as otherwise it may well be remembered for the wrong reasons.

The prestige of the Presidency must not be diluted and/or degraded, but it should be shown the utmost respect and given the rightful importance by all the people, as the incumbent truly deserves.
