As someone who has made many trips to this island and has a great love for it and its people, it is a shame that the ongoing dispute regarding meals for Air Malta cabin crew could lead to passengers considering a move to one of the rival airlines.
Although it might be easy to understand the management’s response to the losses made by the airline, is alienating the workforce the best way forward? Surely it is best to have them on your side, even at difficult times when jobs are in doubt.
Perhaps, rather than exacerbating the situation at a time when the airline management is negotiating with the staff for a reduction in the numbers employed, they should reconsider the policy on providing meals for cabin staff, as after all they are losing money due to the same staff not taking around the trolleys during flights with a captive audience.
The time has no doubt come for management to reconsider its position and not allow this dispute to continue, if this seems impossible. Perhaps members of the board should resign and put in their place people who are willing to negotiate to save a once proud airline and not hand their customers to either EasyJet or Ryanair.
