Caffé Moak Luxol maintained their unbeaten run in the women’s basketball league after beating Hibs as PAVI Depiro consolidated their second place with victory over Athleta.

This was Luxol’s fifth consecutive victory. Against Hibs they had a slow start but lifted their game by several notches after the interval to seal the win.

While Luxol were at full strength, Hibs had a few regulars missing.

With most of the players unable to click into gear there was little to separate both teams at half-time.

However, the match came to life on the changeover with Luxol showing more cohesion to open a ten-point lead (26-16) and keep the upperhand to start the last quarter 34-27 ahead.

Hibs tried all options to seize the initiative from their opponents but Luxol administered their lead wisely for a 56-49 victory.

Depiro came from behind to beat Athleta who once more collapsed in the last quarter.

Athleta had the better start to lead 17-9 by the end of the first quarter. Depiro were unable to match their opponents’ play in the zone and Athleta went in for the break leading 33-18.

But Depiro looked a different lot after the interval and their comeback started with a 10-2 break that saw them reducing the gap to six points 44-38.

Depiro kept up the momentum in the last ten minutes. They put their noses in front and after that they were never troubled by Athleta. Depiro won it 60-53.

Standings: Luxol 10 (5-0), Depiro 10 (4-2), Athleta 9 (3-3), Hibs 8 (2-4), Phoenix 5 (0-5).
