A record number of 7,274,833 plastic caps were gathered in less than two months from over 90 organisations across Malta and Gozo and deposited at Green Pak for recycling.

The Helen Keller Resource Centre in Qrendi was the highest contributor, with an average of 7,972 plastic caps per student.

This collective effort led to the donation of €15,000 by Green Pak to President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca during L-Istrina. Green Pak was also presented with a certificate by The Malta Records for the highest number of plastic caps collected.

Originally launched by Green Pak in 2011, the fourth edition of Irriċkla għall-Istrina (Recycle for L-Istrina) campaign saw the participation of primary schools and business organisations.

Green Pak’s waste educ-ators, along with its mascot Green Gary, visited various premises to supply recycling bags and explain the benefits of the initiative.

Green Pak Coop Society CEO Mario Schembri said the overwhelming response was a clear indication that the company’s recycling practices were well received.

“This encourages us to continue providing recycling opportunities in a responsible manner,” he added.

Green Pak Coop Society is a Mepa-authorised scheme and a founding member of Expra, a European organisation that promotes producer responsibility schemes internationally.

Green Pak is also backed by ProEurope, an umbrella organisation of 35 national producer responsibility systems engaged in the selective collection and recycling of packaging waste.
