This letter is addressed to the agnostics, the sceptics and those who believe that the ancient Hebrew writers of the Old Testament were uneducated, superstitious religious fanatics groping in human ignorance, while trying to develop a concept of God.

In the 17th century, the medieval Catholic Church held to the notion that the earth is a flat, stationary object in the centre of the universe. When Galileo presented scientific evidence to the contrary, his facts and theories were branded as heretical.

Nowhere does the Bible teach the flat earth theory, or that it is the centre of the universe. On the contrary, 700 years before Christ, the prophet Isaiah was inspired to write of the spherical shape of the earth. In Isaiah 40:22 it is written: “It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth.”

The original Hebrew word used is ‘chuug’, which means a compass, circle or sphere.

Even the Maltese version of the Bible, translated from the original language by Peter Paul Saydon indicates this: “Hu li jgħammar fuq id-dawra ta’ l-art.”

How did Isaiah, an ancient Hebrew, know that the earth was round? The ancient Hebrews were more knowledgeable and scientific than they are given credit.
