Former Health Minister Godfrey Farrugia has been appointed whip of the Labour parliamentary group, succeeding Carmelo Abela, who is now minister of home affairs.

Dr Farrugia was appointed in a unanimous vote by Labour MPs.

The whip is responsible for the organisation of parliamentary business by MPs of his group and is especially responsible to ensure that a sufficient number of MPs are present when votes are taken in the House.
