IIG Bank to focus on shorter-term products

As from next week, IIG Bank is focusing its product range on maturities that extend from three months to three years.

The bank said that the prolonged interest rate decline had a gradual knock-on effect on deposit rates offered by banks over these past few years.

“At IIG Bank we have seen this trend developing as more customers now tend to prefer the shorter-term maturities,” Nigel Stibbs, chief officer for private banking said.

“Our clients have definitely become more attracted to shorter-term maturities of one to two years, with a view to renegotiating at the end of that period. We are introducing new term deposits of 18 and 30 months, giving a more extensive suite of maturities from which our clients can choose.”

IIG Bank’s offices are located at Portomaso and Qui-Si-Sana. In the early part of 2015, the Qui-Si-Sana branch will be moving next door to larger premises.

BOV 3D Secure now extended to all cards

Bank of Valletta’s BOV 3D Secure service is being extended to the last remaining cards, namely BOV Cashlink Visa, BOV Cashlink Visa Gold and BOV Cashlink Visa Black.

Offered in collaboration with Visa and Mastercard, BOV 3D Secure is available automatically and free of charge to all BOV cardholders when shopping online. A cardholder effecting an online payment at one of the participating merchants is presented with a message from BOV, notifying him that he will be receiving a passcode on his mobile phone. This code is entered by the cardholder at checkout point, and the transaction is authenticated.

The bank urges BOV cardholders to register their mobile phones so they can benefit from this service.
