Matthew Asciak confirmed his top ranking in the local tennis scene by retaining the BOV Malta Tennis Masters title yesterday.

In the final, Asciak overwhelmed Denzil Agius 6-0, 6-0 for the victory.

Asciak has definitely stamped his authority on this tournament, winning four out of the five times it has been held since 2010, missing the 2012 edition due to international commitments.

It is to be noted that Asciak dropped only four games in the entire tournament cementing himself as the country’s no.1 player

The final was played at the Gordon Asciak Tennis Academy indoor court at the Marsa Sports Club.

John Paul Abela, Media and Community Relations manager at Bank of Valletta, presented the trophy to Asciak in the presence of David Farrugia Sacco, the Malta Tennis Federation president.

Congratulating Asciak and all the participants in the tournament, Abela said: “As a major supporter of sporting initiatives, it is a pleasure to see such dedication and sportsmanship that was evident throughout the tournament.”

Dr Farrugia Sacco thanked Gordon Asciak for the use of the indoor court without which, it would have been impossible to see the tournament through due to the adverse weather conditions.

“The level of tennis exhibited at this tournament also augurs well for our game in both local and international scenes,” he added.
