Robins are autumn migrants and winter visitors in Malta. This one was ‘shot’ while scavenging for food during a hail shower in Naxxar. Cold winters can be tough for birds, making it more difficult for them to find food. Robins eat mainly insects but will happily give them up for cake and other crumbs, especially when cold. If you intend feeding them, ensure crumbs are put in places where they will not make the birds easy prey for cats.
