St John Rescue Corps is calling for volunteers willing to join the organisation and give a valuable service to the Maltese community during national events and emergencies.

Training will be provided by experienced instructors at no cost.

The training programme for new volunteers spans over a period of six months and covers modules such as rope work, compass and map reading, basic fire awareness, First Aid together with the use of an automated external defibrillator(AED), casualty handling, ladder work and radio communication amongst others.

Participants who successfully complete this training programme will be awarded the recognised certificate of Rescue Volunteer Class 1, which can lead to other specialised courses such as Urban Search And Rescue (USAR), High Angle Rescue and Fire Fighting. Besides rescue work, other volunteers are required in areas of administration, maintenance and logistics, which are all critical roles within this organisation.

St. John Rescue Corps are opening their doors to anyone who is interested in getting to know more about what they do, why they do it and how to become part of a team that saves lives. The Corps is inviting visitors to their Headquarters and Training School at Fort Madalena in Madliena on  Saturday between 2p.m and 6 p.m. hours and Sunday  between 10am and 4 p.m.

There will be demonstrations of rescue operations carried out during road traffic collisions and tips on how to prevent and handle kitchen fires and other household mishaps.

The high angle rescue team will be providing an overview of a rescue operation carried out at height while also providing the public with an opportunity to abseil or try out zip lining. There will also be rescue equipment on display.
