It was reported yesterday that former Malta Select forward Andrew Bartolo, who started his career at Valletta Prestons before moving to city rivals Floriana FC, had passed away earlier this week, aged 94.

Bartolo played a prominent role for the Greens and was also included in various Maltese selections for matches against the Services teams based on the islands during and after World War Two was over.

In matches against the servicemen, Bartolo was dep-loyed in attack along with legendary strikers Tony Nicholl and Salvinu Schembri.

Following his move from the Prestons, Bartolo donned the Floriana colours for several years before hanging up his boots and retiring from the game.

The funeral mass will be said today at St Publius Parish Church, Floriana, at 9am.
