So the government is proposing to build a bridge connecting Malta and Gozo costing €1 billion and then €4 million a year to maintain it.
Naturally, these figures are only estimates and we all know that estimates have a regular habit of increasing.
Why? Because it takes too long to cross over.
Would it perhaps not be a lot more cost-effective to build one more ferry, maybe two or even more, and increase the frequency of the trips?
Apart from the huge cost savings, it will not ruin the landscape and environment but will serve to maintain the charm and advantage of Gozo’s double insularity for people from Malta, for tourists and, more importantly, for the Gozitans.
