Rangers: Ally McCoist’s three-and-a-half year reign as Rangers boss has finally come to an end after the club confirmed he has been put on gardening leave. It was announced last week that the 52-year-old had handed in his resignation but McCoist was adamant when he spoke to the press on Friday that he would see out the 12-month notice period of his contract. But he lasted just two days more before his time in charge of the Glasgow giants was brought to an end. Assistant coach Kenny McDowall will now take the reins of the team.

A-League: A stoppage time goal from Erik Paartalu gave City the spoils in a frenetic Melbourne derby that prevented Victory from closing on A-League leaders Perth Glory. The tall midfielder rose at the near post after 91 minutes of deadlock at the Rectangular Stadium on Saturday to head home Mate Dugandzic’s cross and send half of the 26,372 crowd into frenzied celebration. The win handed Kevin Muscat’s Victory side their first defeat of the season.

Evans: Hartlepool will not be signing convicted rapist Ched Evans, the Sky Bet League Two club have confirmed. Newly-appointed boss Ronnie Moore said in the wake of Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Oxford that it was a “possibility” the striker could join Pools. But in a statement released yesterday afternoon, the club said they “do not intend signing Ched Evans and, for the avoidance of doubt, will not be doing so, irrespective of his obvious ability as a football player”.

PSV: The first half of the Eredivisie season ended with wins for Ajax and Feyenoord, but with PSV Eindhoven holding a four-point lead at the summit. Ajax left it late against Excelsior, substitute defender Mike van der Hoorn breaking the deadlock within 60 seconds of his 82nd-minute introduction before fellow replacement Richairo Zivkovic completed a 2-0 win. A 32nd-minute goal from Colin Kazim-Richards was enough for Feyenoord to win 1-0 at Breda but they remain 12 points behind the leaders, who beat Go Ahead Eagles 5-0.
