Mel: Pepe Mel has been appointed coach of Spanish second division side Real Betis until the end of the season. Betis lie fourth in the Segunda division, six points behind leaders La Palmas. The 51-year-old Mel led Betis to promotion into the top flight in 2011 and they qualified for the Europa League at the end of the 2012-13 season. He was sacked later that year before being appointed coach of Premier League club West Bromwich Albion.

The 21-year-old France youth international joined as a free agent in 2013 after his contract expired at French side Auxerre. But he has scored only one goal in 19 appearances, eight of them starts. Sanogo is likely to be sent to another Premier League club rather than moving overseas.

Meunier: Napoli are closely following Thomas Meunier with the prospects of a transfer move to the Serie A club from Bruges next month. The Belgian club managing director, Vincent Mannaert, said: “We know that Napoli are closely following him, but no negotiations have started at club level.” Meunier, 23, has a contract with Bruges until June 2016. He can play as right-back, but also on the right or left side of midfield.

Owner Andy Lonsdale had promised to invest £1m in the club but he did not arrive at the hearing on time, reportedly claiming he was stuck in traffic on Friday. It was the 10th time Lonsdale had been ordered to appear at the High Court. It brings to an end a sorry saga for a club founded in 1924 and most famous for knocking Newcastle out of the FA Cup as a Southern League club in 1972.

Correa, 20, is set to put pen to paper next month. The Estudiantes player has also been linked with Chelsea but it seems he has decided to join Sampdoria after talks with coach Sinisa Mihajlovic.
