Diamonds International has a selection of certified diamonds in all shapes and sizes in stock.

The diamonds are International Gemological Institute-certified and staff members handling sales are certified gemologists. The company has invested heavily in staff training to ensure customers are given the best advice when purchasing diamonds. Certification also helps keep customers’ minds at rest when buying diamonds.

A perfect stone with perfect clarity is rare and most flaws that exist in jewellery grade diamonds cannot be seen without looking at stones through a jeweller’s magnifying loupe.

Diamond clarity can be enhanced through treatments, but not all enhancement techniques are permanent. The two most popular treatments are laser treatment and fracture filling.

In laser treatments, which are permanent, a laser is used to remove inclusions. With fracture filling, tiny cracks in a diamond are filled with a colourless substance.

Diamonds International has been one of the few organisations in Malta with an in-house team of goldsmiths, a watchmaker and a gemologist, offering a guarantee of quality, excellence and knowledge.

Diamonds are a miracle of time, place and chance. Like snowflakes, no two are exactly alike. Until the middle of the 20th century, there was no agreed-upon standard by which diamonds could be assessed.

The Gemological Institute of America created the first and now globally accepted standard for grading diamonds: colour, clarity, cut and carat weight. Today, the four Cs of diamond quality are the universal method for assessing the quality of any diamond.

Since diamonds are formed deep within the earth, under extreme heat and pressure, virtually all of them contain ‘birthmarks’, small imperfections inside the diamond (called inclusions), or on the surface (called blemishes).

Clarity refers to the degree to which these imperfections are present. Diamonds which contain numerous or significant inclusions or blemishes have less brilliance because the flaws interfere with the path of light through the diamond.

When grading diamond clarity, the GIA considers the number, size, colour, reflectivity and position of every flaw visible under 10 times’ magnification.
