The Parliamentary Secretariat for the Rights of Disabled Persons, the National Commission for Persons with Disability and the National Focal Point for the Rights of Persons with Disability jointly condemned the actions of “an irresponsible person” collecting a petition in a local council, which they did not name, for disabled persons not to remain in employment.

The entities said they contacted the council’s administration for the case to be investigated.

The secretariat said it had embarked on a strong campaign to promote the abilities of disabled persons and the importance that they were employed even through measures announced in the Budget. This rendered the behaviour of the person collecting the petition “deplorable and condemnable”.

The government, it said, would take all steps and measures necessary in connection with the case.
