87.1 kilos of plastic bottle caps were amassed by BOV employees between November and December 2014. These will join millions of other plastic bottle caps being collected through this initiative run by GreenPak Cooperative Society Limited which is also open to schools and organisations. These bottle caps will find a second life, but in the meantime, they will be contributing towards the final sum donated towards L-Istrina 2014.

Through its initiative ‘Irricikla ghall-Istrina’, GreenPak Cooperative dovetailed its campaign to increase environment awareness with a philanthropic purpose. For every kilogram of recycled bottle caps, GreenPak will be making a donation towards this year’s L-Istrina campaign.

Kenneth Micallef, Head CEO’s Office at Bank of Valletta expressed his satisfaction at the employees’ keen response to this initiative. “The response of our people to this initiative was immediate. The container we set up for the caps soon filled up and we had to add another three, which were all filled up to the brim. We were keen to support this initiative because of the manner in which it links awareness about the green environment with social consciousness, both areas that we strongly believe in as an organisation.”

Bank of Valletta is an active supporter of the drive towards L-Istrina, supporting numerous initiatives like this one in order to generate funds towards the Malta Community Chest Fund, in addition to organising the L-Istrina BOV Piggy Bank Campaign which this year marks its 11th edition.
