Valletta defender Jonathan Caruana was given a two-match ban following his dismissal in the first half of his side’s 3-1 defeat to Hibernians last Sunday.

Caruana was shown a straight red card by referee Mario Apap after being adjudged to have hit out at Hibs winger Marcelo Dias.

The incident occurred on the half-hour mark when Caruana raised his left foot at Dias after the latter had tripped the Valletta player.

Valletta captain Ryan Fenech, sent off for two yellow cards just six minutes after Caruana’s exit, was given a one-match ban.

Dias was suspended for one match after he collected his fourth yellow card in Sunday’s game against Valletta.

Apart from the Valletta duo, Birkirkara midfielder Ryan Scicluna was the only player to be shown a red card last weekend. Scicluna was banned for one match.

Birkirkara midfielder Paul Fenech, Mosta’s Ryan Grech, Terence Agius, of Pietá Hotspurs, Floriana’s Clyde Borg and Sliema Wanderers winger Trevor Cilia were also suspended for one game for four yellow cards.

Floriana’s Sacha Borg also received a one-match ban after his club failed to submit his medical clearance certificate at the Malta FA as stipulated by the association’s regulations.
