Some €700 were believed to have been stolen in a break-in at the Millennium Chapel in Paceville early this morning.

An unknown person or persons forced entry through a window and stole some €400  from a cash register at a book shop and some €300 from collection boxes.

No other serious damage was caused.

Fr Hillary Tagliaferro, director, said he noticed the break-in when he opened the chapel this morning. He said footage from security cameras has been handed to the police.

"Whoever broke in could have simply asked for help and we would have given it to him," Fr Tagliaferro said.
