The number of abandoned children around the world reaches a shocking 132 million according to Fondazzjoni U (Xandir Soċjo-Reliġjuż). 

The foundation is working with relentless energy on Christmas Day to organise a fundraising campaign in aid of the missions whose main focus is abandoned children. The chosen beneficiaries this time are the Capucchin Friars in Kenya, the nuns Daughters of the Sacred Heart in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and the Philippines, and the mission in Albania run by  the Gozitan priest Fr Manuel Cutajar. Many volunteers within the Foundation will be offering their time and energy, on Christmas Day, to enthuse Maltese and Gozitans to donate a gift of love to so many children who, like Baby Jesus, find no shelter. 

The 13-hour activity on Christmas Day is entitled Pre-Marathon because it is only a foretaste of what is being concocted for the actual fundraising Marathon to be held between the 23rd and 25th of January 2015 for the same noble objective. The Pre-Marathon will be broadcasted on a number of television stations, starting at 10 a.m. and ending at 11 p.m. Your participation witnesses your solidarity with the abandoned children, the Maltese and Gozitan missionaries who dedicate their life to these children, and the volunteers who will be giving up their usual family entertainment on Christmas Day for the sake of the children who have no family. Your contribution makes a difference!

During this pre-marathon, a number of parish priests will be receiving gifts and hampers to be distributed among needy persons in their parishes. Distinguished guests will also be joining our effort in order to share good wishes with benefactors. The programme includes various choirs who will entertain us with their carolling.
