Developments this week which led to the dismissal of one of the most prominent ministers confirmed the Opposition’s credibility and effectiveness, Nationalist Party leader Simon Busuttil said today.

Speaking during a seminar in Gozo on the theme “Work in Gozo, when, how?”, Dr Busuttil said this followed the government’s other u-turn on the local elections decision following pressure by the Opposition.

Dr Busuttil said the Opposition was proposing new laws in many sectors and tabling several motions, while carrying out its duty and keep the government accountable.

SHOOTING INCIDENT

Speaking on the shooting incident by the former Home Affairs Minister’s driver, Dr Busuttil said many government officials including from the Office of the Prime Minister were involved in this cover-up but the Prime Minister was saying he did not know anything because he went to sleep.

This was actually the problem, Dr Busuttil said this, that the Prime Minister was asleep when faced with such abuse of power. He had based his career on a lie so he was weak with his colleagues.

GOZO

On Gozo, Dr Busuttil said there were several initiatives one could take for work for Gozitans to be created in Gozo including through investment in technology, tourism and environmental friendly economic growth.

POLICY OF HONESTY

Dr Busuttil promised he would continue to follow a policy of honesty and that he would remain close to the people.

“My policy is that well-paid employment, including in Gozo, has to be created by a vibrant private industry that will come to Malta and Gozo through the government’s work to provide incentives and help train Maltese and Gozitan youths to find jobs in new industries.”

He said that although there had been those who doubted the party’s policy of honesty, it had now been confirmed that this could bear fruit. The government’s mask had fallen off and what was uncovered was not at all desirable.
