It is not surprising that the quest for energy, clean water and decent housing could lead to power struggles and conflicts, because these elements are the most essential measures of wealth, well-being and development. Without these three elements, society risks to regress by centuries in a matter of days.

On the other hand, energy efficiency and renewable energies could play an important role in fostering collaboration and sharing of resources, which brings peace and stability. They go even further by mitigating climate change and bringing about a cleaner environment, which the United Nations hopes to realise in a legally binding commitment in 2015, following the climate summit of September 2014.

Bringing change is often believed to lie in the hands of politicians, but this cannot be realised without the active contribution of researchers, engineers, scientists and architects, to provide practical solutions to today’s challenges, through innovation and new technologies.

For this reason, the Institute for Sustainable Energy (ISE) of the University of Malta is organising its annual conference on March 17, 2015, entitled: Sustainable Energy 2015: The ISE Annual Conference.

The event aims at bringing the latest developments in the energy fields to the attention and knowledge of all stakeholders. The areas of interest cover many topics ranging from buildings, energy efficiency in industry, energy end-use efficiency, efficient energy production, energy policy, renewable energy applications, energy education and water technologies.

A call for papers is open to all interested parties, including but not limited to, professionals, researchers, Masters and PhD students and industry specialists.

The deadline for submission of abstracts is Friday. Accepted abstracts shall be notified by December 29.
