Q: I would like to know whether sellers are legally obliged to provide repair services on white goods once the commercial guarantee has expired?

A: The Consumer Affairs Act stipulates that “if the goods are of a nature that may require maintenance, or possible replacement of parts, then replacement parts and appropriate repair service must be made available for a reasonable time from the date of the delivery of the goods by the trader to the consumer”.

The law also states that “the trader or the producer may release themselves from this obligation by specifically and expressly warning the consumer in writing, before the contract is entered into, that they do not supply replacement parts or repair service”.

According to the Consumer Affairs Act, once the legal and commercial guarantees expire, the seller is obliged to provide a repair service for a reasonable time against payment.
