Demonstrators hold placards as they protest against the construction of the Interoceanic Grand Canal in Managua, Nicaragua. People living in the affected municipalities are against the construction of the 278-kilometre-long mega project, of which 105 kilometres would cross the Cocibolca Lake. The construction of the $50 billion Interoceanic Grand Canal is expected to rival the Panama Canal and will begin on December 22. The placard, centre, reads: ‘When fear dies, freedom starts’.
