Strong international growth is continuing for Maltese-owned EC English Language Centres, as it further expands its portfolio in the US with two new schools due to open in January.

In line with agent and student demand, one school will be in the centre of Washington DC and the other on campus at Oswego, part of the State University of New York network. These two new additions will bring the total number of EC schools to nine in the US and 21 worldwide.

The new premises in Washington DC are centrally located on Connecticut Avenue, a 10-minute walk from the White House. Featuring 11 spacious classrooms and modern student facilities the international chain has become known for, the school will also feature a ‘boutique’ interior design, reflecting the unique historical identity of America’s iconic capital.

In keeping with the demand for schools based at higher education institutions, EC will also launch its second university-based school at Oswego in New York State.

EC’s on-campus students have access not only to a state-of-the-art language learning centre but also to an authentic US university lifestyle. Living and learning alongside American and international students, they are immersed in campus life and have access to a full range of university facilities.

An English for Academic Purposes (EAP) course is specifically designed to prepare students for higher education in the US. TOEFL waivers and concurrent enrolment agreements between institutions ensure that students have a smooth transition into full-time academic study.

Executive chairman Andrew Mangion said: “Ongoing dialogue with our partners and students has informed our latest investment decisions and we are delighted to be able to offer two new locations in what has become our primary destination country. Washington is an incredible city, a must for anyone who wants to experience life and study in the home of western politics. At EC, we settle for premises only in the very best locations and our students in Washington will be right in the heart of the action.

“We are also opening our second on-campus school in response to the growing international demand for higher education in English-speaking countries, particularly the US, which is home to some of the best universities in the world. At Oswego, and as we continue to develop our on-campus opportunities, we are happy to open the doors to success for academically-driven students around the world.”

Established in 1991 with its first school in Malta, EC will now be operating in 21 locations in major English-speaking destinations, including London Euston; Times Square, New York; and South Beach, Miami.

The Maltese-owned language school chain specialises in English language teaching, with French taught exclusively at EC Montreal.
