An intensive, two-day workshop with Jean Pierre Magro is being organised by Creative Writing Alliance Malta.

Magro is a writer and producer based in London. His latest film production, We are Monster, competed at the Edinburgh Film Festival and was nominated for the Michael Powell Award.

Before becoming a producer, Magro spent three years working in Los Angeles as head of development for FishCorb films. Recently, he penned Bulgarian Rhapsody, a film submitted for Oscar consideration by the Bulgarian Academy.

Magro also runs Storyworks, a script development programme in Malta, with Valletta 2018 and the University of Southern California.

At the workshop, parti-cipants will be shown how to work on their script to develop it to the point of production. Sessions include two follow-ups with professional notes and critique.

Four writers will be picked to have their script worked on with the aim of targetting short film festivals. Only those whose scripts reach the desired standard will be accepted. Applicants are also accepted for those who want to just be observers. Four will be chosen.

Writers submitting a script need to submit a synopsis in Arial 12 point, a 30-page script for a short film in courier 12 point (in Maltese or English) and a transfer of €10 per script for members or €18 for non-members. If applying as observer, include a short letter of motivation to info@ creativewam.com, together with a transfer of €5 (€8 for non members).

Writing Scripts for Short Films workshops will be held on February 7 and 8 from 9am to 5pm.
