On Wednesday, the price of crude oil fell to 66c, a huge drop from the 107c in June. And, by all accounts, it is set to fall further. Now, how does that price drop affect us here? Seemingly, not in the slightest.
The price at the pump is still as high as ever. But, perhaps more worryingly, now winter is here, so is the price of heating oil and kerosene. On top of the market situation, the latter’s price is artificially high because the previous government had more or less doubled its price some years back to prevent bus owners from using it as a cheap substitute for diesel.
A classic case of punishing the many in order to rein in the few.
Then, moreover, there is the legacy of alleged dodgy dealings by certain individuals, which is sub judice at present.
For all these reasons, it must be time for the government to look seriously at the maths which is penalising the nation.
